Six months with a joiner

One solid oak kitchen island, and the quiet value of details made by hand.

Six months with a joiner

A kitchen island doesn't sound like much. Yet a good solid-oak piece can take months in the hands of a joiner.

Every joint was fitted by hand. The sound of the drawers, the grain running continuously around the corner, the rounded edge that feels good in the palm: none of it shows in a photo, but you feel it every day.

Things made by hand are slower and cost more. But they last a lifetime, and that's the longest kind of sustainability there is.
